As the largest Union in health we have a long and proud tradition of campaigning for the advancement of the professions and the protection of our health services.

Our 45,000 members are organised into Sectors in both the public and private sector. Our members make a major contribution to improving the quality of people’s lives and delivering essential services every day of the year. 

Allied Health Professionals

The Allied Health Professionals Sector is a core component of the SIPTU Health Division. The sector represents radiographers, radiation therapists, phlebotomists, pathology technicians as well as technical & administrative grades within both the public and private health service.

Support Grades 

This Sector includes Health Care Assistants, those caring for the intellectually disabled, Home Helps as well as all grades of hospital Support staff including Catering staff, Porters and Maintenance workers. SIPTU represents workers in both the public and private health care sectors.

National Ambulance Service 

The Ambulance sector represents members in all grades in the ambulance service. PT’s, EMT’s, Paramedics, Advanced Paramedics, LEMT’s, Controllers, Team Leader Controllers and Support Officer’s.

Nursing and Midwifery 

SIPTU’s Nursing and Midwife sector represents General Nurses, Midwives, Children’s Nurses, Public Health Nurses, Registered Nurses in Intellectual Disability, Psychiatric Nurses and Dental Nurses at all grades, in both the public and private sector. As a Union we are committed not only to a high standard of representation but also to the protection of the qualifications and the status of Nursing and Midwifery as professions.
