Allied Health Professional Sector

The Allied Health Professionals Sector is a core component of the SIPTU’s Health Division.

The sector represents:
Radiographers
Radiation Therapists
Phlebotomists
Public laboratory scientists
Dental nurses
Supply officers
Clerical, administration, and managerial grades in a number of locations.
Other health professional grades including social care workers in a number of locations

Union members in these grades directly elect the Allied Health Professionals Sector Committee. This committee is responsible for directing campaigns relevant to the sector on issues important to its membership.

The AHP sector committee also has the authority to set up grade specific national subcommittees that deals which can with issues directly impacting a particular grade. These committees include;

The Radiographer and Radiation Therapists Executive
The phlebotomist national coordinating committee

SIPTU’s Allied Health Professionals Sector has recently been involved in a number of successful campaigns:

1) The AHP Sector secured significant pay increases for Radiographers and Radiation Therapists in February 2022 under the Building Momentum (public service agreement) sectorial bargaining arrangements.
2) The AHP Sector successfully campaigned for the establishment of a Chief Health and Social Care Professional role within the Department of Health.
3) The sector successfully secured standardisation of terms and conditions of employment for phlebotomists within the public health service.
4) The sector has been instrumental in securing alignment with public service pay in a number of private hospitals across the country.
