    SIPTU Health Members Update

This update is presented to SIPTU Health Division members about the forthcoming industrial action planned to begin on the 30th January 2019.

The purpose of this update is to ensure members are advised about appropriate conduct and respect during the action.

SIPTU is not in dispute with another union.

This update is designed to ensure that no action is taken by a SIPTU member which may be deemed to undermine the industrial dispute. The guidance points below are consistent with the formal request made of our union by the General Secretary of the INMO.

It should be noted that specific queries relating to local arrangements should be addressed to your local SIPTU Health Organiser.

    • SIPTU members should not undertake any action which may be deemed to undermine the industrial action
    • SIPTU members should not accept any responsibility for any roles or duties not normally assigned to them during their regular work and which may be deemed to undermine the industrial action
    • SIPTU members should work their normal duty roster during the industrial action. Members should not accept any proposed change to their rota. This includes any proposed change of duty roster including day, time or location if the request for change originates because of or may be deemed to undermine the industrial action
    • SIPTU members should attend their normal place of duty. Members should not agree to be reassigned if the purpose of that request originates from or is deemed to undermine the industrial action
    • SIPTU members should contact their local SIPTU Health Official if any matters relating to the industrial action are identified. Please contact our head office on 01-8586468 if you need contact details for your local health organiser

SIPTU will support our members through the course of the industrial action. Our union respects the rights of other trade unions to utilise whatever course of action they deem appropriate to advance the pay and conditions of their members and we will not undermine same.

SIPTU has not balloted for industrial action as we support adherence to the public service agreement and the use of provisions provided for within it to advance all matters relating to pay for our members.

Our union will continue to use those procedures to advance all issues relating to pay for our members within the health service.

The HSE and Department of Public Expenditure & Reform has confirmed all SIPTU members will continue to benefit from the terms of the Public Service Stability Agreement including Recommendations of the Public Service Pay Commission.

We will continue to issue updates to our members and trust these are of assistance.

SIPTU meets HSE on nurses pay

SIPTU nursing representatives met with the HSE today on the measures required to advance the pay and conditions of employment of our nursing and midwifery members, having regard to the Public Service Stability Agreement (PSSA).

SIPTU representatives urged the health service employers to consider the recommendation of the Public Service Pay Commission that the parties to the PSSA should examine the adequacy of current pay arrangements and should do so as a matter of urgency.

SIPTU fully supports the right of all workers to fight for better pay and conditions in the most effective manner as determined by union members.
