Minister Finian McGrath committed to ending pay injustice for Section 39 workers

SIPTU representatives have today (Sunday, 19th August) welcomed the support from Minister of State for Disabilities, Finian McGrath to secure pay justice for members in Section 39 organisations.

Speaking to Liberty Online earlier this week Minister McGrath confirmed that he is pushing for a resolution to the plight facing Section 39 workers at Cabinet. He hopes to see some real movement before strike action is taken by SIPTU members in selected Section 39 organisations on Tuesday (18th, September).

He said: “My core issue is that I want to see staff who work in the services that I am responsible for paid well and on good working conditions. As a parent with a daughter with an intellectual disability, I know the service inside out for the last 25 years and what a great job Section 39 workers do and how professional they are.”

He added: “The bottom line is that we have to pay these workers properly. It is essential that pay restoration is given to all SIPTU members and staff in Section 39 organisations.”
